Plastering has evolved over the years from the traditional lime putty used in older constructions to the more modern gypsum plasters. Here at Render 8 we can cover all your plastering needs.
Lath and plaster - a technique applied between the 18th Century and the mid-20th Century, and features horizontal strips of wood nailed to a vertical upright timber framework, with three layers of lime putty mixture applied. For every layer applied it could take up to three weeks to dry before the next one could be applied.
Dry lining - quicker and cleaner when compared to traditional method of rendering, plasterboard panels can be applied to timber, metal or brickwork with plasterboard adhesives.
Plasterboard stud walling - sheets of plasterboard, which are cut to size, are fixed to a timber framework with fixing nails. To avoid cracks in the walls, scrim plastic tape or fabric is taped to the joints before a coat of plaster is applied.
Plaster - the typical finish for walls which are constructed from brick or stone.
When repairing a plaster wall, the repair should ideally be carried out using the same materials as the original wall. Modern gypsum plasters are a lot harder and more brittle that the traditional lime putty used in older constructions
